John C. Leavitt is a composer/pianist based in Denver, Colorado in the USA. Born on 28 August 1990 in Anaheim, California, John and his family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he grew up studying piano, violin, and composition.
John attended Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance studying under Dr. Robin Hancock and Dr. Jeffrey Shumway in 2016. He also studied orchestration and film score composition with Sam Cardon, Ron Saltmarsh, and Merrill Jenson.
After graduating from BYU John moved to Valencia, Spain where he completed a Master’s Degree in film scoring (Scoring For Film, Television, and Video Games) from Berklee College of Music. He studied film score composition with prominent Argentine composer Lucio Godoy, orchestration with Alfons Conde, and video game music composition with Sergio Lácima. He recorded and conducted his final project, “Wax and Feathers,” in AIR Studios in London.
In 2018 John was accepted to study orchestration in Halle, Germany with Benjamin Köthe during the Das Orchester workshops. He recorded his piece “Gruffalo” there with a full orchestra, which was selected to be performed live at a concert gala honouring composer, Rachel Portman.
John now currently resides in Denver, Colorado where he orchestrates and arranges frequently for Claire Crosby, the YouTube sensation. He is a frequent guest-orchestrator and arranger for Fernando Furones, director based in Madrid, Spain, and orchestrator for Paula Olaz, film score composer in San Sebastian, Spain.
Additionally, John teaches music at the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning to all ages (K-12), as well as privately from his home.
