Chibuike Cello Fund

Greetings to all members of AMTA!

It has come to the attention of Grace Christus that a young man (18 years old) who has taught himself cello in Nigeria is in need of his own cello.  He heard her composition “The Dragon and the Phoenix”  online and is learning it mostly by ear.  He has been using a cello from the Sacred Heart Academy of Music in the town of Onitsa to participate in their music program.  However, he is soon to age out of the program.

Our goal is to buy a cello for Chibuike.  There is a cello available at the local music store Okeysonic Musical Equipment for 70,000 naira (local currency), equivalent to about $369 American dollars.  That is actually quite a deal.  We want to raise $380.  The extra dollars are to accommodate the fees to wire the money directly to the music store or any other unforeseen expense.

The AMTA Scholarship fund will provide $100 towards this end.  Grace Christus will be providing another $100 toward the cello as well.  If anyone who would like to contribute to this cause can chip in, it will take very little time to raise that amount.  If we collect more than what is required, the extra money will go into the scholarship fund, so it will all be for a good cause.
